Switchboards & Surge Protectors

1. What is this item?

Switchboards (also called distribution boards or DBs) are the panels that receive incoming power and distribute it safely across various circuits on the farm—pumps, lighting, machinery, and outlets. Surge protectors (SPDs) safeguard sensitive equipment from voltage spikes caused by lightning strikes or grid fluctuations.

2. How is the Quantity Estimated?

• Main DB: 1 unit at the farm’s power entry point.

• Sub-DBs or Mini-DBs: Typically 1 per building or major load zone (e.g., pump house, workshop, processing unit).

• Surge Protection Devices: 1 SPD per DB plus 1–2 point-of-use SPDs for high-value equipment (e.g., control panels, computers).

3. What are the Cost Components?

• Enclosure & Panel: Metal or FRP cabinet with DIN rails.

• Circuit Protection: MCBs, isolators, MCCBs, RCDs.

• Surge Protective Devices: Type 1 (incoming), Type 2 (distribution), Type 3 (equipment-level).

• Auxiliaries: Busbars, wiring, labels, earthing kit, indicators.

• Installation: Cable termination, testing, commissioning, and certification.

4. What are the Going Rates & Per Unit Cost?

• Main Switchboard: ₹25,000–₹45,000 per 8–12-way panel.

• Sub-DB (4–6 ways): ₹10,000–₹20,000 each.

• Surge Protectors:

o Type 1 SPD: ₹3,000–₹6,000 each

o Type 2 SPD: ₹1,500–₹3,500 each

• Installation & Testing: ₹5,000–₹10,000 per board.

Example: A farm with 1 main DB + 3 sub-DBs + 4 SPDs →

Panels: ₹45,000 + 3×₹15,000 = ₹90,000

SPDs: 4×₹3,000 = ₹12,000

Installation: ₹4×₹7,000 = ₹28,000

Total ≈ ₹1,30,000
