Mist / Fogging Chambers fced Nursery Operations

1. What is this item?

A mist chamber is a high-humidity, controlled environment specially created to germinate seeds, propagate cuttings, and harden tender plants before field planting.

It uses fine water mist sprays at regular intervals to maintain near 90–95% humidity without waterlogging.

Mist chambers are critical for:

• Tissue culture hardening

• Softwood cutting rooting

• Grafting operations

• Propagation of exotic and high-value species

🌿 In short: When normal nurseries are not enough, mist chambers step in!

2. How is the Quantity Estimated?

• Based on type of plant material and batch size planned.

• Small farm needs: 200–500 sq ft

• Professional nurseries: 1000–3000 sq ft chambers or multiple units

📏 Thumb rule:

For around 5000 plantlets, a 300–400 sq ft chamber is generally sufficient.

3. What are the Cost Components?

• Misting system (nozzles, pipes, pressure pumps)

• Framed enclosure (GI pipes / MS structure)

• Covering material (UV stabilized polyfilm or polycarbonate sheets)

• Humidity sensors + timers + automated controllers (for serious setups)

• Drainage floor (simple slope with collection points)

• Optional: Climate control units if temperature management is also needed.

🧩 Add-ons can be:

• Fogging nozzles

• High-pressure misting for even finer control

4. What are the Going Rates & Unit Cost?

Component Approximate Cost

Misting System Setup ₹100–₹150 per sq ft

Framed Enclosure (basic) ₹120–₹250 per sq ft

Automation Kit (Sensors & Controllers) ₹25,000–₹60,000 extra

💵 Typical full system (manual misting): ₹2 lakh–₹4 lakh for 500–1000 sq ft

💵 Fully automated with climate control: ₹6 lakh–₹10 lakh for bigger setups.
