Mushroom Production Unit

1. What is this item?

A dedicated fruiting chamber and substrate prep zone for cultivating high-value mushrooms (oyster, button, shiitake, etc.). It includes:

• Spawn incubation area (where mycelium colonizes the substrate)

• Fruiting chamber with controlled humidity, ventilation, and light

• Substrate pasteurization/sterilization setup (steam or hot-water bath)

• Storage racking for bags or logs

Mushrooms = next-level ROI per sq ft, especially when you’re selling gourmet fungi!

2. How is the Quantity Estimated?

• Substrate Volume: A small unit might process 200–300 kg wet substrate/week.

• Chamber Size: For 300 kg substrate, you need ~100–150 sq ft of fruiting area (on 3–4 tier racks).

• Incubation Space: Roughly same footprint as fruiting chamber, but sealed and dark.

• Scale Up: Each additional 100 sq ft adds another 300 kg/week capacity.

3. What are the Cost Components?

• Shade-house/Container Structure (GI frame + tin or polyfilm): ₹70–100/sq ft

• Racking & Shelving (stainless or painted MS): ₹800–1,200 per sq ft of rack area

• Humidity & Ventilation:

o Misting nozzles + pump: ₹15,000–25,000

o Exhaust/air-circulation fans: ₹5,000–10,000 each

• Substrate Prep:

o Steam boiler or hot-water pasteurizer: ₹20,000–50,000

o Bags/logs & spawn (inoculum): ₹200–₹350 per kg spawn

• Lighting: Low-wattage LEDs for pinning: ₹2,000–5,000 total

• Monitoring Tools: Hygrometer + thermometer: ₹2,000–4,000

4. What are the Going Rates & Per Unit Cost?

Component Cost Estimate Quantity / Size

Structure (150 sq ft) ₹1.05–1.5 Lakh GI + tin/polyfilm

Racking (3 tiers × 150 sq ft) ₹3.6–5.4 Lakh ₹1,200/sq ft rack area

Humidity/Ventilation ₹25,000–45,000 1 pump + 2 fans

Pasteurization setup ₹20,000–50,000 Hot-water or steam

Spawn & substrate (weekly) ₹6,000–₹10,500 300 kg @ ₹200–350/kg

Lighting & monitoring ₹4,000–9,000 LEDs + sensors

Total Estimated Cost ₹6–8 Lakh approx. For a 300 kg/week unit
